Rethinking Corporate Identity: Why an Anniversary Can Be the Perfect Time to Revisit Your Brand

As businesses evolve, it’s natural to reach a point where you start asking bigger questions. What do we want to stand for over the next decade? What still feels true about who we are, and what has changed?

An anniversary is often the perfect moment to have those conversations. Rather than simply looking back, it gives you the chance to reflect on your journey so far, clarify what matters today, and think about how you want to move forward.

In this article, we’ll explore how an anniversary can become more than a milestone. It can be an opportunity to rethink your brand, strengthen your culture, and bring employees, customers, and partners along for the next chapter.

Corporate Branding for the Next Chapter

Corporate branding has traditionally focused on communicating a company’s strengths, credibility and achievements. Those things still matter, but expectations have changed. Today, people want to understand not only what a company does, but why it exists and where it’s headed.

That’s one of the reasons anniversaries can be so valuable. They create a natural pause from the day-to-day pace of business and provide space to think about the bigger picture. Looking back at your history often makes it easier to see the thread that connects your past with your future.

Refreshing a brand doesn’t mean reinventing your company from scratch. More often, it’s about rediscovering the ideas that have always been there and finding clearer, more relevant ways to express them. When that story feels authentic, customers, employees and partners can all understand not only where you’ve been, but where you’re going.

Building Your Brand from the Inside Out

A brand doesn’t live in a logo, a website or a set of brand guidelines. It comes to life through the people who represent it every day.

That’s why external branding and internal branding should always evolve together. If employees understand the thinking behind a company’s direction—and can see how it connects to their own work—that direction becomes something they can actively contribute to rather than simply read about.

An anniversary creates an ideal opportunity to start those conversations. It gives people permission to step back from their daily routines, reflect on the company’s journey, and think about the role they’ll play in its future. That shared understanding often becomes one of the most valuable outcomes of the entire process.

Creativity as a Shared Language

Ideas like purpose, culture and identity can be difficult to communicate through words alone. Design helps bridge that gap by turning abstract ideas into something people can experience.

Whether it’s a visual identity, a film, a publication, an exhibition, or a collection of everyday objects, creative work gives people something tangible to connect with. It transforms values into experiences and helps create a shared language that resonates both inside and outside the organization.

When Modis Design celebrated its 20th anniversary, we wanted to explore that idea ourselves. Rather than producing traditional commemorative merchandise, we designed a collection of products that reflected who we are today—not just where we’ve been, but where we’d like to go next.

Case Study: The Modis Design 20th Anniversary Collection

The collection includes a T-shirt, tote bag and socks—simple, everyday items designed to be used rather than just acting as keepsakes for the occasion.

The goal wasn’t simply to celebrate twenty years in business. We wanted to create something our team and partners would genuinely enjoy while expressing the curiosity, creativity and international perspective that have shaped our work over the past two decades. We also wanted the collection to reflect something less tangible: the sense of play that’s always been part of our culture.

Looking back, the project became more than an anniversary gift. It started conversations about what had remained constant over twenty years, what had evolved, and what we wanted the next chapter of Modis Design to look like.

Sometimes a thoughtfully designed object can communicate those ideas more naturally than a presentation or strategy document ever could.

What’s Next?

Every company reaches moments when it’s worth stepping back to ask bigger questions. An anniversary is one of those moments.

It’s an opportunity to celebrate what you’ve built, but it’s also a chance to reflect on what comes next. That might mean refreshing your visual identity, creating new ways to tell your story, strengthening your company culture, or simply finding better ways to express ideas that have been evolving over time.

There’s no single formula for doing this well, and every organization will approach it differently. What matters is making the most of the opportunity. The conversations you have during an anniversary year often continue to shape how people think about your company long after the celebrations are over.

At Modis Design, we help organizations tell their stories through branding, design, video content and multilingual communication. Sometimes that means developing a completely new identity. Other times it’s about helping a company rediscover the strengths and values that have been there all along.

If your organization has an anniversary on the horizon—or you’re simply thinking about how to communicate the next chapter of your business—we’d love to hear what you’re working on.
